Environment
The environment affects us all and in keeping with the festival's current theme of 'Going Green' this section will debut a Natural Heritage Walk along the mangroves in the Arabian Sea and conduct a contest on preserving the Bandra Talao. Bird watching with a difference – watch the tree to find the bird is slated during the festival. A Plastic Free Bandra campaign for a year is scheduled to be launched during the festival.
A 'No Car Day' is scheduled for 29th Nov where residents are urged to keep their car at home and walk or use the bicycle. Timing of the 'No Car Day' is 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
1) Heritage walk (for a change, natural heritage) to the mangroves and sandy stretch off Carter Road
2) Sumaira Abdul Ali taking some kids and/or young people to measure the noisiest place in Bandra.
3) Heritage Walk to the Bandra Talao, (HT Sep 21 mentions Bandra Talao as being possibly included the Mumbai Heritage list). Also young architects’ design competition for plans to protect this talao, which can be exhibited at the site itself.
4) Bandra bird count: the idea of a walk around Bandra looking for trees is to merged with the bird watch if v r roping in BNHS for bird spotting. The same resource person can point out the trees. When we r watching the birds, they shall be on some tree or other, so we shall have to look at the trees by default.
Bird watch shall have to be a three to four hour walk. If the resource person is identified, we can do a recce a few days in advance. It shall be my pleasure to be present during the walk
5) Plastic Free Bandra Campaign for a year, launched during festival
There are also three or four big-ticket green events being sponsored by the British Council, mainly concerning children and art.
